Local AI upscaling

Compare a short sample

Select a video and target display, then open AI upscaling. Choose animation/illustration or general/live-action content. The comparison processes at most 0.5 seconds and 8 frames. Comparison playback is user-started and silent, not an automatic full-video conversion.

Choose an appropriate size

Both source dimensions must be smaller than the display. Aspect ratio is preserved. For the animation model, a target within 5% above a supported 2× or 3× scale may use the lower integer scale: a 2.05× target can finish at 2×. The general model uses a 4× engine and may be more demanding. AI estimates details and can cause artifacts or flicker; it is not frame interpolation.

Limits and completion

Supports eligible MP4/MOV/M4V, a single H.264/HEVC SDR video track, up to 60 seconds and 4× scaling. Output is limited to a 4096px long edge and 9 million pixels. HDR, 10-bit and non-square pixels are not supported. Processing uses the Mac’s resources, with AC-only processing enabled by default. Pause, resume or cancel the job. Results are added as new library items; the original and current wallpaper are preserved.
